Description
Low-voltage cables
Cables in the Wind Industry, especially for wind turbines and for loop installation on the top of the tower are facing severe torsion constraints due to the rotation of the nacelle.
Due to the minimum 20 years life time of wind turbines, Nexans brings an appropriate answer to all O.E.M requirements and specifications.
Torsion tests simulate a 20-year life time in a turbine. To meet this requirement, cables have to comply with a complete test which depends on customers’ specification.
Nexans has developed low voltage loop cables (up to 1kV) that reliably transmit energy produced in the generator to the transformer, usually located at the base of the tower. They come in Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen (LSZH) versions, and are also oil, abrasion, UV and ozone-resistant.
Medium-voltage cables
Nexans can provide flexible medium-voltage loop cables, which are light and compact rubber types for all types of turbines (2.5 to 6 MW).
These 1, 3, or 4-core cables are able to withstand the torsion due to rotation of the nacelle (usually three full twists in either direction). They can be used down to -40°C.
In addition, they are resistant to all common types of mineral oils and cooling liquids. Covered voltage levels are 1 kV to 35 kV, but also higher voltages are available on request.
For fixed installation, e.g. the connection of loop cable and bottom of the tower, rubber or XLPE-insulated cables are offered, either halogenated or halogen-free.
